Te Puna Rugby Club
The French Maori Rugby Connection 25-Sep 25-Sep 25-Sep
Ph 07 552 6661 broblack@xtra.co.nz

The Rugby Club members would love to talk rugby, show you memorabilia and talk about the TePuna/French connection to Normandy. The rugby Club is next to the Tutereinga Marae. You will be greeted in the traditional way with a Powhiri (Maori Welcome). The local Kaumatua (wise elder) will talk about the history of the people and the Tutereinga meetinghouse. Guests then stroll around the Marae grounds and view local women weaving as they done for generations. Further on down from the kiwi orchard is the Takitimu Waka (war canoe) that carries 120 paddling warriors. Directly next door to the Marae is a Kohanga Reo or native language school where children will entertain the guests with a Maori Cultural Performance. Te Puna Rugby Club is the only French Maori Rugby Club in the world and home to 2 famous Maori All Blacks. This is where the Te Puna Rugby Club players will host their visitors and share rugby yarns while enjoying an authentic superb hangi. Right next door is the beautiful St Josephs Church built in 1900 by two Frenchman, Emile Borell and Louis Bidois. A formal farewell will then take place where songs of friendship will be exchanged.
