Join the Steamers at your local Men’s Health Evening

Healthy Eating Healthy Action

Healthy eating is…

  • eat breakfast at home for a healthy, low cost way to start the day – try wholemeal toast and banana or porridge with milk and honey
  • fill a bottle of water from the tap and add a piece of fruit such as lemon, orange or apple for a refreshing drink that’s both healthy and cheap
  • have a selection of healthy snacks to hand in the cupboard at home such as carrot, cucumber and celery sticks, popcorn, mini fruit muffins or low-fat yoghurt
  • eat a range of colourful fruits and vegetables – different colours provide different nutrients needed for health
  • choose fruit and veggies in season – they are cheaper and often better quality from roadside stalls and farmers markets

Healthy action is…

  • set a time each week to meet up with friends at the beach or the park for a game of cricket or touch rugby
  • explore new areas of your neighbourhood on foot or by bike such as walkways, estuaries or inland reserves
  • take opportunities to be active throughout the day, like taking the stairs instead of the lift or getting off the bus a stop earlier
  • choose activities that you can do as a family – brainstorm new ideas while eating dinner together
  • have fun! kids need 60 minutes of moderate activity every day so switch off the telly and go play together
