This weekend the Bay of Plenty Academy squad will depart for Samoa. The 25 man squad coached by Mike Rogers and Marty Bourke will play in two fixtures the first against Manu Samoa’s Under 20 national side and second against a Samoan Invitational side.
Mike Rogers excited for the forthcoming trip and the opportunity it provides for further growth and development of those selected.
“We are really excited about our upcoming trip to Samoa. This is a fantastic player development opportunity for all players selected in the Bay of Plenty Academy squad. The purpose of the tour is to replicate the development that we get out of players at National U19 tournament, and to grow our wider Academy programme,” said Rogers.
The squad has been building over the past six weeks preparing for the forthcoming tour, however Rogers and his team management are under no illusion the challenge their side will face.
“The squad has trained really well over the past six weeks. We have a really balanced squad and we are looking forward to seeing how they match up against what is quality opposition. We know the tour is going to be really tough with the quality of the opposition and the heat to contend with, our players are going to be under real pressure, but we are confident that they will rise to the challenge,” said Rogers.
Rogers finished recognising the significant contribution made by key sponsors.
“We really would like to thank our sponsors for making this happen. Base Up Contracting, Moon Drainage and Aotea Electric have been really generous with their support to achieving this tour,” said Rogers.
