The Bethlehem Coachlines Championship sees a titanic clash in the first division between Western Heights High School and Rotorua Boys’ High School 2nd XV.

The match will be played at Western Heights High School will have the added incentive of seeing the team from Raukura having their first shot at retaking the Te Kani Shield. In past years this Icon of secondary schools rugby was firmly locked away in the Rotorua Boys High School Trophy cabinet and the shield is firmly on their goal list for the 2017 season.

Both teams had good wins in the opening round with the coaching staff from both teams struggling to have their team’s deliver consistent performance week after week. Kieran Botha the Rotorua Boys’ High School 2nd XV coach commented that their big win over Opotiki College was pleasing because things finally came together and it clicked.

Steve Smith head coach for Western Heights High School will be hoping that his boys will deliver the same attitude and effort which saw them put away a spirited challenge by Bethlehem College.
This traditional clash between Western Heights High School and Rotorua Boys’ High School will be a match not to be missed.

Division two will see Te Puke High School host Otumoetai College. This battle of the Western Bay will be epic with both schools wanting to earn their way back to the top division. Te Puke High School head coach Rua Hartley is proud of the way his young team has shaped up this year. Hartley commented that they are a good bunch with a better training ethic than previous years and is expecting his team to continue to perform well this season. Despite a loss in the final minutes of last week’s game Hartley expects his team to perform for the entire 70 minutes this week.

Otumoetai College coach Paul Braddock is rebuilding a young and inexperienced team following the departure of the long established coaching team of Jamie Davies and Richard Brown. A big win over the improving Whakatane High School 1st XV reflects the effort his boys have been putting in with training's since April. Looking forward to this Saturday the Otumoetai boys know they will hav eto combat the tough an physical Te Puke boys to come out on top this week.
