With semi-finals just around the corner and the pressure in division one and two remains high with the teams looking to secure a home semi advantage or the last spot in the respective division.
John Paul College went down in a close battle with Bethlehem College before the holidays. Bethlehem College will need Rotorua Boys’ High School 2nd XV to suffer a loss to have a chance of making the semi-finals.
The John Paul College forward pack was taken out of the game with uncontested scrums which blunted their attack on a wet and cold Bethlehem field. You can expect them to come out firing when they take on the top ranked team from Western Heights High School.
Western Heights High School with a fistful of Bay Under 18 representative players will be wary of taking things lightly at the business end of the season. The Steve Smith lead coaching team are determined to maintain their momentum as they seek to reclaim their Division 1 title and hold on to the Te Kani Shield.
Trident High School along with Bethlehem College have a slim hope of making finals if other results go their way. Two bonus point wins is what they need to keep their season alive after Saturday 5 August.
Te Whare Kura o Mauao will be too strong for the young Opotiki College team even with the travel by the round one champion. 2018 will be the year that this young and exciting Opotiki College team will come to the fore and they will be an exciting package next season.
Rotorua Boys’ High School 2nd XV will need to win both of the last two games if they want to play semi-finals. With two losses and a draw so far this exciting team will need to use these last two games to prepare for some tough competition in the semi-finals.
Division Two remains a tight battle between the top five teams.
Tauhara College will step off the plane on Monday night after a 2 week tour to South Africa and will have to take on their top ranked neighbour Taupo Nui a Tia College with this game scheduled for Wednesday 2nd August with both teams backing up on Saturday 5th this tour may prove costly for the Tauhara College semi-final ambitions.
Te Puke High School will host the bottom ranked Papamoa College and are expected to take a comfortable win with the young Papamoa College team.
Otumoetai College will take on Tauranga Boys College 3rd XV with the winner guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals.
