BAY UNDER 14’S TO PROVIDE THE ENTRÉE TO THE STEAMERS
September 12
The youngest Bay of Plenty age group representative team has a real treat in store when they play this weekend. With a bye in the Northern Region competition - the Under 14 side will be the entrée, to the Steamers Air New Zealand Cup match against Auckland at the Rotorua International Stadium, on Friday (12 September 2008) night.
On Saturday, just one Bay side will play at a home venue, with five teams traveling up the Auckland motorway to play Northern Region opponents. The Bay Development side, will be seeking their first win of the season, when they meet Taranaki at the Tauranga Domain.
Life in the fast lane of the National Development competition has seen victory elusive - but has provided the players with plenty of top-level experience.
Back to back wins will be on the agenda of the Bay Under 20 and 18 teams. Both teams posted solid victories, over their respective Northland and Counties Manukau opponents, last weekend. The two age group sides will take on their North Harbour counterparts this weekend at the Onewa Domain.
Defending Northern Region Under 16 champions Bay of Plenty, should bounce back against Northland on Saturday, after a narrow defeat last week. The youngsters showed that they were genuine contenders in the first round - demolishing King Country by seventy points.
Arguably the most improved Bay team last year was the secondary schoolgirls. They started the season where they left off last year - when they squeezed past North Harbour 7 nil last Saturday. This week’s challenge is against Counties Manukau at Pakuranga. The Bay of Plenty Roller Mills (Primary) team are in the final stages of their preparation for the annual tournament. Last weekend they ran away from King Country 55 nil in Te Kuiti. A weekend of travelling see the side face Thames Valley at Paeroa this Saturday - before backing up 24 hours later against Waikato in Cambridge.
