Release 2008 - conclusion of AGM
Yesterday afternoon saw BOPRU annual general meeting come to a conclusion and despite announcing a large financial loss many positives came out of yesterdays AGM. "The turn out at Whakarewarewa Club rooms yesterday was quite good and the collective support of where the union is at and where it needs to be was also very encouraging," said Stuart Harvey, CEO and Chairman. "There was a lot of speculation but once the facts were presented it became obvious to all that for the union to be where it needs to be, it will only get there through working together".
Local Tauranga businessman Peter Williams is the board's only new face, replacing long serving baord member Paul Singh. Peter Williams has been involved in property development for several years and brings with him a passion for rugby and the commercial acumen needed to take BOPRU forward.
New Zealand Rugby Union on Friday committed to assisting BOPRU. Many avenues for assistance exist including advancing annual payments, which would provide BOPRU the cash flow needed to trade out of its current financial position. NZRU could also consider appointing a Statutory Manager however a clear plan for moving forward will only be formulated laer this week, once Andrew Steele from NZRU has reviewed the overall BOPRU situation.
BOPRU will hold the next board meeting ASAP, it is anticipated to be held later this week once NZRU has all of the information required and suggestions for moving forward are tabled.
BOPRU will endeavour to keep its sponsors, supporters and general public as up to date as possible with any new outcomes happening over the next few weeks.
