HERB SCHULER OFF TO YAMAHA
Kevin Schuler Confirms He is Heading to Yamaha
Chief Executive Officer of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union, Jeremy Curragh has confirmed that Kevin Schuler will not be the Head Coach of the Bay of Plenty Steamers for the 2009 Air New Zealand Cup season. Schuler will instead be heading to the Yamaha Club in Japan. Schuler said "it has been a very hard few days as I considered my options. He had talked to a number of people to ensure he made the right decision. Schuler went on to say "the Bay of Plenty squad are well advanced with planning and with the bulk of the squad returning and some exciting new signings the 2009 season was looking promising. Schuler addressed the players at training last night. He said "it was a very difficult occasion as I am definitely leaving with mixed emotions. The Players, Staff and Board at the BOPRU have been extremely supportive so it was hard advising them of my decision". Schuler has been involved with the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union since 2003. Curragh said "On behalf of the Union, Sponsors, and wider rugby community I would like to thank Herb for his immense contribution over that time. Herb has a great knowledge of the game both on and off the field which we will miss. Yamaha have made a good choice and we wish Herb, Michelle and family all the very best". Curragh said "The BOPRU would be advertising locally and nationally this weekend and into next week". The process is robust and swift but will ensure we get the best available candidate. We hope to have the new coach appointed within three weeks". Applications will close on Wednesday 18 February with interviews commencing immediately.
