Press Release 29 July 2010
With championship semi-finals looming on the horizon, in the BOP Polytechnic Secondary Schools competitions, the championship contenders are starting to emerge.
In Division One of the first fifteen title race, the top four appear ready to split the competition into two this Saturday (31 July 2010). Competition leaders Western Heights High School, will consolidate their position at the top of the leader board, if they defeat Trident High School in Rotorua.
Last weekend Western Heights showed their class, running in five tries on their way to defeating Reporoa College 35-20. The Rotorua team have a real match winner in halfback Jordan Poi, who marshals his troops with authority, and can kick goals from any angle. Last week he converted all five Western Heights tries.
Defending champions Opotiki College have been in fine form in the championship round, with just a solitary loss to Western Heights, on their championship ledger card. However this weekend they are likely to receive a strong challenge from Bethlehem College, who need a victory to remain in touch with the top four.
Reporoa College will be favoured to bank the win points on offer, when Te Puke High School pay a visit - with John Paul College likely to prove too strong for Whakatane High School.
