New Zealand Rugby Recommends Cancelling All Team and Group Based Trainings

Last Friday 20 March 2020, in our previous Covid-19 update, Bay of Plenty Rugby postponed all Coach and Referee related courses, including RugbySmart and Small Blacks.

Today, New Zealand Rugby formalised our decision as well as recommended that all clubs, schools and referee associations cancel all team and group-based rugby trainings.

Although these measures are not explicitly required by Government, these measures will help to minimise the risk of person to person transmission.

This position is to stay in effect until April 18th, or further notice. With the advice that this pandemic will last far longer than weeks, New Zealand Rugby will review the proposed start date of community rugby and provide on-going advice on that in due course also.

In the meantime, the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union continues to work with our volunteer committees and strongly advises all of our rugby stakeholders; our players, coaches, administrators and supporters to remain connected to your team, your club and your school.

  1. Matt welsh Matt welsh I believe that with the 4 week lockdown now in place from 26 March that no type of team training can be done, and this impacts on the date when Rugby could commence, which could be mid-late June. Any competition that would be viable from then will have to be region based and not include travelling out of sub union area.. Junior Rugby should be cancelled completely. Wednesday, March 25, 2020
