Bay of Plenty Rugby wishes to acknowledge the passing of Charles William Sturt.
Bay of Plenty Rugby chief executive Mike Rogers says Sturt was an avid supporter of Bay of Plenty rugby.

"Our deepest condolences go out to Denise and their whanau at this time. Charles was a great man and a real community leader. He was passionate about Rotorua and especially the community of Ngongotahā. A man of great mana, he will truly be missed.”

Rogers says while Sturt’s passion for his family and community was unequivocal. He was also a great advocate for sport.

“Charles was a staunch supporter of the Steamers, but it wasn’t just about the game. He recognised that through sport you could help to bring positive outcomes for the wider community.”

Sturt is survived by his wife Denise, children Elizabeth, William and Cameron, grandchildren Charlie, Finley, Hunter and Henry and children-in-laws James and Crystal.
