This weekend sees the last pool play match for the Toi Ohomai Premier Women’s Rugby Competition, with teams looking to finish first and second in order to secure a home semi-final next weekend.
Rangiuru currently lead the division with 10 points, with Whakarewarewa (6 points) and Rangataua (5 points) in second and third respectively only separated by a bonus point from previous games.
All signs point to the Whakarewarewa and Rangataua being the match of the round. Both teams will be putting their all into taking the win and get the advantage of hosting in one of the semi-final match ups.
The last time these two sides met, Rangataua where too strong for an injury ravaged Whaka side beating them 51-10. However, as this competition has shown past performance can mean very little.
Whaka have the home-town advantage with the two sides meeting at Puarenga Park this Sunday at 1pm.
Both coaches are experienced enough to know they can’t look ahead to the finals, they have to focus in this game. Whaka and Rangataua have plenty of talent to call on. Conditions for this weekend’s match are likely to be soft underfoot but if the weather Gods smile on the teams there is a good chance of fine weather so, both teams will have the opportunity to be able to play open rugby.
Rangiuru who will finish top two will host either the 1v4 or 2v3 semi-final depending on this weekend’s results. The team will get a chance to use their game against Waimana at Waimana Domain to test out combinations and various game plans against a determined opposition. Kick-off for this game is at 12pm.
