The Bay of Plenty Steamers are again teaming up with Tauranga Moana Safe City and a new programme and campaign called Step Up – ‘You can stop bullying’. The messages will be taken regionally and teaming up with the Bully Free Bro programme in Rotorua and a local Step Up initiative in the Eastern Bay of Plenty to tackle the issue of bullying in schools.
The focus of the programmes is on a community response to bulllying and letting children and young people know that if they see bullying in any form they can help by Speaking Up, Standing Up and Teaming Up to help the victim. Instead of standing on the sidelines and doing nothing we can all be a part of the solution by being an Upstander and Stepping up to the challenge of speaking out and doing something instead of watching.
The programmes use Bay of Plenty Rugby Union as a resource to effectively address significant social and community issues such as bullying and family violence.
