JUNIOR SCHOOL RUGBY

School Rugby provides players in Bay of Plenty with ample opportunity to participate in non-contact and contact forms of the game.

Rippa/Rip Rugby is a game for school children aged 5-13 year old and is a platform for children to play rugby without the contact, we attract a number of football players who love it not to mention other sports.

Thanks to our Western and Central Rippa Rugby sponsors Classic Builders!

What is Tackle 5's?

Bay of Plenty Rugby Union won’t be running the regional and Baywide RIPPA Rugby World Cups anymore. Instead, they’re introducing Rugby 5’s to primary school students.

Rugby 5’s is for year 5&6 students, which consists of 5-a-side tackle rugby on a ¼ sized field, with no scrums and lineouts will be launched in the latter half of term 2, 2023 in the form of a number of 1 day regional tournaments (Western Bay x 2, Central Bay and Eastern Bay), culminating in a Southern Chiefs Region Tackle 5’s Championships where the top 4 teams from King Country, Eastern Bay, Central Bay and Western Bay will play in a Southern Chiefs Finals Day. Boys and girls will play in single sexed teams.

Entries for our new Tackle 5's tournament will open to schools in the coming months.

Schools wishing to participate in Tackle 5's will need to undergo the following:

  1. All students wishing to play tackle 5's will need to attend a "TACKLE CLINIC".  Sports Co-Ordinators will be able to book these in with Bay of Plenty Rugby staff.
  2. Any parent or teacher wishing to coach a team entering a Tackle 5's tournament will need to register as a Coach for their school and participate in a "SmallBlacks" course, that Bay of Plenty Rugby will arrange.  These most likely will be online.
