2026 Youth Development Cup

About the Youth Development Cup (YDC)

The Youth Development Cup (YDC) is a premier Bay of Plenty Rugby Union tournament.

Launched in 2021, YDC was the vision of former Black Ferns XV international and BOP Volcanix legend Kendra Reynolds, alongside former Coach Development Manager Dan Goodwin. Together, they set out to create something special—an age-grade sub-union tournament designed to reconnect rangatahi with local rugby while delivering a memorable and inspiring experience both on and off the field.

Aligned with the beginning of the under-16 talent identification pathway, YDC has quickly become a key entry point for future success. It’s not just a platform for emerging players, but also for developing coaches and referees, helping to shape the next generation of rugby talent across the Bay of Plenty.

For many players YDC provides a unique opportunity to represent their sub-union and showcase their skills. With the inclusion of invited teams from neighbouring provinces, the tournament now brings together more than 400 rangatahi each year, creating a vibrant, competitive, and inclusive rugby environment.

Now in its six year, the Youth Development Cup has firmly established itself as the flagship representative tournament for Bay of Plenty Rugby’s rising stars—where passion, pride, and potential come together to ignite the future of the game.
