The Bay of Plenty Steamers and Volcanix are proud of the strong relationship shared with First Mortgage Trust. That is why we are pleased to announce that in 2021 the First Mortgage Trust brand will appear on the ‘Lower Back’ of the Steamers and Volcanix playing jerseys in the Bunnings Warehouse NPC and Farah Palmer Cup. 

First Mortgage Trust (FMT) has been alongside the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union (BOPRU) in a partnership spanning back four years. We are proud to see FMT achieve, year after year, growth in its investments and its support of a prosperous Bay of Plenty.

"We first sponsored the Steamers four years ago, and it's great to see the continued success of the club over the years as well as the growth of the game in our region at the provincial level.

BOPRU General Manager Neil Alton stresses the value that First Mortgage Trust has helped bring to the Province.  

"Our longstanding partnership with First Mortgage Trust has helped the Province achieve many milestones. For example, rugby's growth in the Bay of Plenty has been unprecedented. 

"We are now the third biggest provincial union of 26 in New Zealand with over 12,000 registered players," says Alton.

"We are also proud of the recent achievements of the Steamers, winning the National Championship in 2019 and finishing third in the Premiership in 2020. 

"The Volcanix are also a growing force in provincial women's rugby. Seven players on our roster belong to the Black Ferns squad preparing for the Women's Rugby World Cup". 

Alton concludes that these milestones could not have been achieved without the help of FMT and the broader support of the BOPRU business community.

He believes that common shared values of teamwork, integrity, and respect are what mould the fantastic partnership with First Mortgage Trust and other partners.

The Volcanix officially begin their Farah Palmer Cup campaign with an opening game against Auckland on July 16. The Steamers kick off their Bunnings Warehouse NPC season at home against Tasman on August 8 at Tauranga Domain Stadium.
