THIS WEEK: ONLINE MEETING - MONDAY 22nd MAY
Next week: Baywide Meeting - Monday 29th May @ Eastern Districts RC, Paengaroa (Facilitator Bryce Lawrence)
*MONTH THEME - NAILING THE BASICS*
Online via Microsoft Teams
Time: 8pm Meeting Start
Topic: 2023 Experimental Laws Recap & Discussion
Facilitator: Cam Russell
Join: Click here to join (view our Online Meetings page for more instructions if needed)
- This season only has a few but critical Experimental Laws in place that we all need to be across for consistency. CLICK HERE to view the detail, plus the recording of our session in March outlining what they are, and join us for discussions and a recap on how they're being applied across the grades, with a chance to share your experiences, questions, concerns etc.
Finals begin as soon as June - if you have ambitions for selection, ensure you've ticked off a Bronco & Law Exam, and chat about your ambitions with your panel manager NOW. There are multiple roles to fill in finals, including ARs and sideline managers - selectors can't read minds, so to avoid the disappointment of being completely overlooked, communicate early with your panel manager to ensure your name is considered. |
Recent Training & Development Recaps
8th May - Baywide Meeting - Referee/AR Interactions & Communication
- Adam covered another First Aid scenario - Click here for some First Aid basics.
- Tony Dunlop outlined what our Referee Coaches have been up to - currently getting around to see EVERYONE in the first half of the season. Amazing work by them.
- Remember you have opportunities to self-reflect and/or reflect with a coach using our GROW model, no matter your level or experience, click here for an outline.
- Sam, Andy and Jaco lead our Baywide education session around working as a refereeing team in a match, no matter the level. Some key messages:
- It is all about building relationships so ask questions, get clarity on roles and appreciate the help and being involved.
- Positioning - stand on the corner flag for attempts at touch - in play, move with the ball to judge forward passes.
- Stay involved and the referee can keep ARs involved through things like asking for specific feedback.
- For live calls from ARs, if in doubt, STAY OUT (calls should be clear and obvious) but feed back at the next opportunity to the referee around trends to watch for.
4th May - Online Meeting - RefLIVE, Veo & Reporting
- Recording is now available above, or on our Online Meetings page
- RefLive is a new system aimed at improving the rugby environment and experiences for all involved, especially referees. It gathers short, quick feedback to highlight areas of strength and concern, enabling supportive action to be taken with clubs and schools to prevent potential big problems arising. You will have received an email to activate your account. Head to dashboard.reflive.com to sign in.
- Veo is an automated camera system which records games and makes them easy to view online. BOPRU has five bookable cameras, along with many clubs and school now having purchased their own. Any Referee Club member can be set up with an account to sign in and review footage, and can book cameras for themselves. Head to boprugby.co.nz/veo
- Reporting - there are some minor updates to the ways in which we can report cards, making it simpler and quicker. Visit our Reporting Page to learn how to download the MyRugby Manager app and watch the tutorial video for how to easily load card reports through the app.
