The Bay of Plenty Rugby Union (BOPRU) is pleased to appoint the vastly experienced Megan Cleverley to its Rugby Board to replace Owen Cooney who will now focus on the commercial activity of the Union as part of the newly created Commercial Board.
Cleverley brings over 14 years of industry experience to the table, including nine years as Sports Manager at Sport Bay of Plenty. The BOPRU is confident that Megan's experience and expertise will help provide value across a broad range of rugby activity with a particular focus in the community game space.
"I am excited to be able to be a part of it," says Cleverley.
"I have watched the BOPRU grow over the last few years, and I love the positive impact the game has on our communities."
With the unpredictability of COVID19 and the many challenges it brings, many not-for-profits like our Bay of Plenty Rugby Clubs have struggled this year. Consequently, Rugby Club capability has become a focus point for the BOPRU Rugby Board and an area where Cleverley has both experience and passion in spades.
"Increasing Club capability is so important right now, especially in this new unpredictable environment with Covid," says Cleverley.
"It is paramount that our Clubs are stronger and more resilient to enable them to carry on and do what they love doing. If we can do that and keep the volunteers supported, then we are doing our job."
BOPRU CEO Mike Rogers says that "We are very lucky to add Megan to our Board. We are confident that our rugby organisations will benefit significantly from her involvement.
“Megan’s knowledge of the sports sector and understanding of club structures will be invaluable in helping rugby in the Bay continue to adapt to a fast changing and, incredibly challenging environment."
