Volcanix debutants get chance to shine in crucial round 6 clash

This Saturday marks Round 6 for the Volcanix FPC campaign as they play the Wellington Pride at Porirua Park in a double header with the NPC teams.

The Volcanix are coming off a tough loss at home last weekend and will look to turn their fortunes around. Head Coach Brent Kaua says clarity in the team roles and being more clinical with finishing were the key work-ons for this week.

"We had the opportunity to win the game on a few occasions," says Kaua.

"We are playing some great rugby. Our decision-making just needs to be better. We're one pass away from getting it right!"

Four of our Volcanix have been selected in the Black Ferns side to play Australia on 20 August at Christchurch's Orangetheory Stadium. Kendra Reynolds, Natalie Delamere, Luka Connor, and Santo Taumata will miss the game and instead challenge for the Laurie O'Reilly Cup.

The game kicks off at 8.05pm and will be broadcast LIVE on Sky Sport 1 (channel 051). Best of luck to our Black Ferns!

"Although we will miss our Black Ferns, it provides a great opportunity for some new players and our wider squad. He'lena Dou'ble and Jade August will come off the bench for their first game, and Animei Skudder will earn her first start," says Assistant Coach Jarvy Aoake.

"Kelsie will be leading the team while Luka is away. Her and Luka have been massive for us this season. They are great humans on and off the field. Kelsie will do a great job. She leads by example."

Wellington, who are flirting with relegation, will pose a tough challenge upfront for the Volcanix, however, the Volcanix also have a lot to play for. A win could drastically shape the remainder of their season.

"This is an important game for us as it could secure us a semi-final spot" says Aoake.

"Success for us will come from nailing our individual roles and making decisions for the team first, and the result will come.”

The game will be televised Live on Sky Sport 3 (channel 053) kicking off at 11.35am. Volcanix fans travelling to Porirua Park can purchase tickets to the game online by clicking here.
