Volcanix head coach Kyle McLean has announced his coaching and management team for the Farah Palmer Cup campaign starting on the 15th July.
McLean comments, “Im really excited to have such a high calibre of people to work alongside of, in my first year as Head Coach. Last years coaches, Brent, Kaua, Crystal Kaua and Jarvy Aoake laid a solid platform and its great that most the management are back to contribute to what will be an exciting group of players.
McLean continues, “Renee Woodman-Wickliffe is a well known Black Fern and member of the World Cup winning team from 2022. Renee has the experience of 4 World Cups aswell as several campaigns with the Volcanix. Renee has so much to offer as a coach, very humble considering all her achievements and holds great mana within the playing and coaching group. As someone who is passionate about Coach Development, Im really excited to support Renee through her coaching journey. Renee will lead the Backs portfolio.
McLean continues, “Jarvy Aoake is in his second year with the Volcanix and has built experience through NZ Rugby and NZ Maori Rugby development roles aswell as coaching at the club level with the Mount. Jarvy brings a real focus on set piece play which will be invaluable in a competition where a strong scrum and lineout is crucial”.
McLean continues, “Brendon Philips has 2 seasons previously as assistant coach with the Volcanix and is back again in 2023. Brendon has a vast knowledge of the game. He brings a wise council to the table and a listening ear for the players, which they really appreciate. Brendons role will focus on defence”.
The Volcanix season includes 3 home games:
V Waikato, Saturday 15th July, 2.05pm, Rotorua International Stadium
V Wellington, Saturday 12th August, 11.35am, Tauranga Domain (Double header with Steamers v Waikato)
