SENIOR RUGBY

Farmlands Baywide Premier Rugby

The Club Working Group (as set out in schedule 4 of the BOPRU Constitution) is responsible for formulating the senior mens and womens competitions to be played in the Bay of Plenty region.  Known as Baywide Premier Rugby, this competition is contested by the top twelve  (12) premier clubs from across the region.

For the 2022 season,  the top twelve (12) clubs have been determined by the table rankings of the 2021 Premier 1 Mens  and Premier 2 Mens competitions from round 2. (See below)

The 2022 competition will consist of a single eleven (11) match home and away series with a finals series  culimnating in a Baywide Premier Mens Champion being crowned. The window for this new format will be between Saturday 30 April - Saturday 23 July 2022, meaning the competition will be completed two weeks before the commencement of the 2022 Bunnings NPC competition.

After the completion of the 11 week round robin competition, the two bottom teams will be relegated to sub union rugby in 2023. The top four teams will play semi finals (1v4 & 2v3) with the highest qualifier hosting.  The final will be between the 2 winners, with the highest qualifier hosting.

While this competition is underway, the three sub unions will be playing their own local sub union competitions.  Each sub union will then nominate their top two (2) teams to participate  in the Baywide Promotion Competition.  Six (6) teams (two from each sub union) will compete in a five week home and away round robin competition.  After the completion of the round robin competition, the top two teams will be promoted to Baywide Premier mens for 2023.
